What are We Trying to Accomplish?  Meaningful Use of an Electronic Health Record (EHR)

This session will discuss the importance of an electronic health record implementation for your organization, with specific focus on the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Planning Part I – What are the First Steps?

This session will present the ways to find the best approach for your organization. Goal setting, finding community resources, gathering and analyzing resources and developing a preliminary scope of the project will be some of the topics discussed in this session.

Planning Part II – Organizational Readiness

This session will provide you with information and tools to conduct readiness and needs assessment of your organization.  This section will look at the big picture. This session will prepare you to analyze your strengths and weaknesses in terms of leadership, operations, organizational culture and IT infrastructure.  Several areas that will be touched upon will be discussed in more detail in later sessions.

Requirements & Assessment Criteria for Products

This session will present the questions you need to ask both EHRS and legacy vendors to ensure you have the right product(s) for your organization.  The speakers will also discuss different approaches to the selection and contracting process.

Managing Change

This session will go to the heart of the way an organization can prepare and commit to implementation.  Topics discussed during the session will include planning for major change, sponsorship, and managing resistance.

This session will involve discussion and participant interaction about organizational change and readiness.

Implementing Part I – Next Steps

This session will present a discussion of the steps and tools needed to support the clinical aspects of your implementation.  The discussion will include building an implementation team, project management, internal communication, workflows re-engineering, preload and data management, end-user training, and patient involvement.

Implementing Part II – Infrastructure/Technology

This session will look at technical issues, interfaces, customization and training. They will also cover several aspects of getting the system up and running and planning for maintenance of the system.

Implementation Panel – Lessons Learned from End Users

Leadership and implementation team members from several Alliance of Chicago partners will share their experience and expertise in implementing EHRS at their clinics. This is the time to ask new questions and have follow-up on the discussions from prior sessions.

This session will inform you of the various HRSA/OHIT resources available to your organization specific to an EHR implementation.

Post-Implementation Optimization

This session will discuss recommendations and planning for continuously maintaining and improving an EHR system after the system has gone live.

2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Performance Measures & Quality Improvement

EHR will provide improved reporting and quality improvement capabilities for your organization.  This session will discuss system expectations and the planning, resources and skills it takes to get the information you need.  There will be discussion about dashboards, indicators, and possible research projects.

Looking Beyond the EHR

Implementation of EHR does not stop with vendor selection or Go-Live.  This panel will discuss on-going support, re-designs, upgrades and enhancements.
